January isn't a big month for video game releases as most publishers want to get their games out before the holidays. However, January 2021 has several big titles to look forward to. Here are some games to check out if you're stuck at home this new year.
1. Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues
This game is based on the television series Cobra Kai and is being developed by Flux Game Studio. The game was previously released on Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2020 but this is the first time it will be available on PC. Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues is a side-scrolling beat 'em-up game and original cast members like Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Jacob Bertrand, and Gianna Decenzo reprise their roles in the game. The game will be available for purchase on January 5th.
2. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition
The first Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game was a beat 'em-up style game based on the popular comic books. In December 2014 the game was pulled due to licensing issues but fans of the franchise will be pleased to know that the new installment will be fully remastered for modern platforms and will have additional DLC expansion packs that come along with it. The game will be available for purchase on January 14th and will be playable on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
3. Hitman 3
IO Interactive is going to be releasing Hitman 3, the final game in the reboot of the Hitman series. The third installment will be the first game that will be available on next-gen consoles with the opportunity for cross-gen for those who haven't upgraded their system yet. The next-gen version of the game will include features such as 60 fps, 4K resolution, and very fast load times for PS5 and Xbox Series X. In addition to having a next-gen option, those playing on PlayStation platforms will also be able to play Hitman 3 on the PlayStation VR Headset. The game will be available for purchase on January 20th.
4. The Medium
Bloober Team - a company known for their horror titles and who aspire to be the video game equivalent of the movie studio Blumhouse - will be releasing The Medium this month. They've had many successful horror games including Observer, Blair Witch, and the Layers of Fear series. The Medium is going to be a third-person horror game similar to the Silent Hill franchise but the most unique thing is that it is that it has a split-screen mechanic. This means that players will explore two version of the game world at the same time when plating on next-gen consoles. The game will be available for purchase on January 28th.
5. The Pedestrian: State of Play
Developer Skookum Arts released The Pedestrian in 2020 but now it is coming to PS4. The game is a 2.5D side-scrolling puzzle solver where players use road signs to solve challenges. Console players have been waiting for The Pedestrian to be available to them since it's release last January when it was distributed through PC, MacOS, and Linux. The game is set to be released this month but an exact date has not yet been confirmed.
