Albert S.G. is accused of murder and desecration of a body.

Prosecutors in Spain seek a 15-year sentence for a man who strangled his mother, chopped up her body, and ate her remains and is on trial in Madrid this week.

The suspect, Albert S.G., is on trial for murder and desecrating a body. He is known as the "cannibal of Ventas" after the district where police discovered the blood-stained flat containing some grisly remains.

According to the indictment, the suspect fought with his 69-year-old mother in early 2019 at the flat they shared in Ventas, near Madrid's famous bullring.

During the altercation, he strangled his mother and dragged her into her bedroom, where he cut her up "to get rid of the body," according to the report.

"Once he began cutting up the body, he began eating the remains for about 15 days, storing other parts in various plastic containers around the house and the fridge," the report stated.

He also placed some of the remains in plastic bags and threw them away.

According to local media, a police officer who entered the flat testified in court on Wednesday that the suspect told them he had eaten some of the remains raw, while others had cooked or given to the dog.

According to local media reports at the time, the suspect was apprehended on February 23, 2019, after police arrived to look for his mother, who had been reported missing by a friend.

When asked if his mother was inside, he said yes and let them in.

"We discovered a hellish scene," an unidentified police officer told Telecinco news channel, adding that the suspect was known to have drug problems.

Prosecutors want him imprisoned for 15 years and ordered him to pay his older brother 90,000 euros ($110,000) in restitution
