Esports is bigger than ever before with events being shown on major networks like ESPN. BBC Sport wants their piece of the esports pie and has accounted they will be broadcasting the UK League Championship (UKLC) across the BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport online, and its app channels.

This will be the second time the UK taxpayer-funded network has broadcast the largest League of Legends competition in the United Kingdom and Ireland. However, unlike last year, BBC Sport has decided not to broadcast the Northern League of Legends Championship.

With COVID-19 forcing most major sporting events to cancel it seems that BBC Sport has decided to test the waters by broadcasting other esports events as well. They recently broadcasted the tenth Rocket League Championship Series and have featured both the W Series Esports League and the BLAST Premier Counter-Strike tournament circuit in the past.

BBC Sport is also trying its hand at esports documentaries. They have recently released Fight For First, a five-part series narrated by Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy following Excel Esports as they compete in the League of Legends European Championship.

BBC Sport will be broadcasting the UKLC on Sunday and Monday evenings from January 17th to February 22nd. The Semi-Finals and Grand Final will be broadcast on February 28th and March 1st.
