Best Moments of 2019: Two Articles of Impeachment Brought Against President Trump

House Democrats officially filed two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump last Tuesday. The much anticipated step came after almost three months of investigations into whether Mr. Trump violated his oath of office when he reportedly pushed the Ukraine to announce investigations into his political rivals.

In nine brief (but targeted) pages, the articles accused Trump of “corruptly soliciting” election assistance from the Ukraine government to urge investigations for the purpose of smearing his Democratic political rivals. Democrats indicated that Trump used two “official acts” as leverage to further his illegal motives: the delivery of $391 million in security assistance and a White House meeting for Ukraine’s president.

This morning, on Dec. 16, Trump tweeted, “The Impeachment Hoax is the greatest con job in the history of American politics!" CNN reports that Trump is tweeting more since the impeachment announcement, and this week he’s about to hit the 15,000 mark of misleading and false statements. His busiest day so far has been tweeting and retweeting 123 posts. Clearly, the president is taking this well.

The articles have been advanced and now go to the House floor for a vote as to whether the president should be impeached and put on trial to be removed from office.
