In one of the least weird but still surprising turns of events of 2020, Carole Baskin has been confirmed as one of the contestants for season 29 of the hit show Dancing With the Stars. Baskin hopes her dance debut will help her shed some of the bad reputation she gained after her feature on the show Tiger King, which aired in March.

"Well, Tiger King really glamorized animal abusers and villainized me for trying to stop animal abuse, so I felt really betrayed by that, but what amazed me was how many people believe that false portrayal of me without doing anything to find out who I really am," she said of her portrayal on Tiger King.

Baskin hopes that the DWTS competition will remind viewers of her activism, rather than what she claims is a false depiction of her. "...the biggest thing for me is the longer my partner and I can stay in the running and in the competition, it will keep the cats forefront in the viewer’s eye. To me, that was where Tiger King missed the ball. It really should've been focused on the animals and so I'm hoping Dancing With the Stars will do that."

But competition for the hearts of viewers in honor of the animals may be hard to win. This season's cast includes Nelly, Kaitlyn Bristowe, Chrishell Stause, AJ McLean, Jesse Metcalfe, Skai Jackson, Anne Heche, Jeannie Mai, Nev Schulman, Justina Machado, Johnny Weir, Charles Oakley, Vernon Davis, and Monica Aldama.
