Due to COVID-19, Marvel was unable to release the slate they had planned in 2020. This was the first year since 2009 that no new Marvel movies came out. Now, in 2021, Marvel is getting back on track. There are 11 certain films being released this year.
1. WandaVision
Wandavision is a television show that will be released on Disney+ on January 15th. It features Wanda and Vision of the Avengers series and viewers will follow their journey in the alternate reality they're stuck in. Paul Bettany will return as Vision and Elizabeth Olsen is back as Wanda. The show will also star Kat Dennings, Randall Park, and Teyonah Parris.
2. Morbius
Jared Leto is set to star in Morbius, where he plays the titular character who is a Living Vampire. The picture is being released by Sony and Marvel, the trailers teased a timeline where Spider-Man is a murderer and also a possible return of Michael Keaton's character from the new Spider-Man franchise, the Vulture. The picture is set to be released on March 19th.
3. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follows Anthony Mackie's Falcon and Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier characters. The story will deal with the Captain America legacy that was posed at the end of Avengers: Endgame and will have the two team up to fight evil. The show was supposed to be released in 2020 but was delayed to 2021, there is not a release date set at this time.
4. Black Widow
Black Widow was another movie that was supposed to be released in 2020 but was delayed. The movie focuses on Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow character and will be a prequel/sequel to the different movies in the MCU timeline after Captain America: Civil War but before Avengers: Infinity War. It will be in theaters on May 7, 2021.
5. Loki
Loki will star Tom Hiddleston returning to the titular role on Disney+. The series will focus Loki who escaped with the tesseract at the end of the Avengers in 2012 where he teams up with the Time Variance Authority and will show alternate timelines in the MCU. The show will be on Disney+ in May.
6. Venom: Let There Be Carnage
The Venom sequel will star Tom Hardy returning as Eddie Brock (Venom) and Woody Harrelson will star as Cletus Kasady (Carnage). There isn't much known about the movie's plot yet but there are rumors of Tom Holland making a cameo as Spider-Man. The movie will be released June 25th.
7. Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings
Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi also known as The master of Kung Fu. Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings is Marvel's first Asian-led superhero film and will also star Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, Florian Munteanu, and more. The movie will be released in theatres on July 9th.
8. Hawkeye
Jeremy Renner returns as Hawkeye in his first solo project. The series will be a sequel to Avengers: Endgame and will follow Clint Barton as he trains the next Hawkeye, Kate Bishop who is played by Hailee Steinfeld. The show will be available on Disney+ in the fall of 2021.
9. Eternals
Eternals is considered one of the riskiest movies Marvel has made, featuring the biggest ensemble in an MCU film aside from the Avengers franchise. The film has an all-star cast including Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, Don Lee, and Lia McHugh. The Eternals are a group of superhumans created by the Celestials to fight the Deviants and the story will take place over 7,000 years. The movie should be in theaters on November 5th.
10. Ms. Marvel
Iman Vellani is set to star as Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel in the new Disney+ series. The story follows Kamala, a Muslim-American girl in New Jersey who gains polymorphic abilities due to her Inhuman genes. In canon she's an Avengers fan who idolizes Captain Marvel as her personal hero. The series will be released in late 2021.
11. Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 (Not Yet Titled)
The final installment of the Spider-Man franchise will be released this year. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker along with Zendaya as MJ and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. The story is going to be tied to the multiverse and Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Doctor Strange. Supposedly, characters from the other Spider-Man franchises will return as well like Jamie Foxx as Electro from the Amazing Spiderman series and Alfred Molina as Doc Ock from the original Tobey Maguire Spider-Man series. The film will be in theaters on December 3rd.
