How BTS Set A Guinness World Record For TikTok

With a total of 14.4 million followers, BTS Official Bighit is one of TikTok’s most subscribed account. The hit channel, which is owned by the sensational k-pop music group - BTS, is surprisingly a fairly new entity on the popular Chinese social media network. BTS had debuted on TikTok last October, and within only three and a half hours of its presence there, it grew to become a record-breaker for the network.  

The K-Pop stars set the record for the fastest time to reach 1 million followers on TikTok. It took BTS exactly and only 211 minutes to reach 1 million followers on TikTok, which was a first for the short-video sharing app. It later continued to break its own records for several days as people joined in to follow the band. Eventually, within only two and half days since its debut, BTS amassed 3 million followers on TikTok. Its first video on the network broke a record of its own when it garnered 4 million likes within the same time frame. The first post featured BTS band members as they took turns to pose in their photo-op and encourage viewers to follow the band’s TikTok page.

In recent months, BTS has been reliably banking on its fanbases’ enthusiastic support. The BTS stans or more colloquially, the ‘BTS ARMY’, helped the band set the record for the best-selling album in Korean history when its EP “Map of the Soul: Persona’ sold 3.39 million copies last June.

BTS released a follow-up of its blockbuster ‘Map of the Soul’ EP, its seventh studio album ‘Map of the Soul. 7’ this February. In under nine days of its release, the album sold more than 4.1 million copies in South Korea for the first time in Gaon Album Chart's history, making it the best-selling album in the country's history, breaking the Guinness World Record of its predecessor Map of the Soul: Persona
