WB Montreal released a much-awaited trailer and gameplay footage for the new installment of the Batman game series yesterday. At DC FanDome's livestream event, the company displayed the first look at a more combat-heavy game, featuring Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin.

The game centers around the premise that Bruce Wayne, as an elder Batman than fans might expect, has sent a video message to his compatriots. If they are viewing the video, it's explained, then Bruce is dead, the Batcave is uninhabitable, and the villains of Gotham are mounting an offensive to take advantage of the chaos. It's now up to the other characters to save Gothman-- without Batman.

Based on the teaser, the game has both an open-world map and multiplayer capabilities, which WB Montreal confirmed would become available in 2021 with the release of the game. However, it isn't necessary to play with others, confirms the trailer: solo play is absolutely welcome in Gotham Knights. No word on split screen capability.

The game will be released at a time that is as of now unconfirmed, but it will be hitting the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, and PC platforms next year. Even though the game exists outside the Arkham line, it's making fans go rabid with a beautiful palette, excellently demonstrated mechanics, and overall enticing map.
