Iran Announces End to Nuclear Deal Commitment

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will end its final limitations in the nuclear deal, meaning the limitation in the number of centrifuges. Therefore Iran’s nuclear program will have no limitations in production including enrichment capacity and percentage and number of enriched uranium and research and expansion.”

These words are from a statement by the Iran National Security Council, in response to the death of Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani in an American drone strike in Iranian territory, and to economic sanctions imposed by President Trump in the last two years. However, Iran announced their intention to return to the deal, as well as work with the International Atomic Agency (IAA) in return for more economic security by lifting sanctions and insuring interests.

The United States left the deal approximately two years ago as well, so nuclear conflict is not guaranteed. It is possible that, if Iran's demands are not met, then it could escalate into military confrontation quickly. But experts are hesitant to declare certainty of nuclear war. After all, Iran has not announced their intent to use nuclear weapons or how they plan to improve their nuclear program. However, concerns are rising as Iran has drafted a bill for official parliamentary vote that would remove American troops on Iranian soil.
