29 year old Jacob Blake was shot 7 times in the back by police on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 22 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. While many presumed him to be deceased after the incident, it was announced that he has in fact survived but is paralyzed from the waist down due to at least one bullet hitting his spinal cord. Multiple surgeries are expected in the future.

Jacob Blake was shot while walking away from the police back into his car while his 3 sons were inside, as the whole thing was shot on video.

Blake's father Jacob Blake Sr. said at a briefing that the police shot his son 7 times "like he didn’t matter. But my son matters. He’s a human being, and he matters.” Blake's neighbors reported that there was a fight that had broke out between two women and that he was trying to break up. That's when the police arrived and presumed he was involved in the predicament.

The police arrived as Raysean White, the person who recorded the incident, was filming. Blake started walking back to his car and opening the door to the drivers seat, starting to get in with his sons in the back, as you see the police officer pull Blake back and then proceed to shoot him in the back multiple times when he would not yield to the police.

Many people are responding to the accusations that Blake deserved the repercussions of disobeying police orders by comparing the incident with one that had occurred with a white man who hadn't complied with the police. The man pushed the police officer away when he tried to close the front car door as he was getting in. The police officer proceeded to tase the man, which did not seem to faze him. He turned back and chased the police officer down and got into a car and attempted to drive off. He later go out of the car and tried to run away after being cornered by the police, without a single gun shot being fired, according to the video.

on Aug. 24, LeBron James tweeted about the incident: "And y’all wonder why we say what we say about the Police!! Someone please tell me WTF is this???!!! Exactly another black man being targeted. This shit is so wrong and so sad!! Feel so sorry for him, his family and OUR PEOPLE!! We want JUSTICE," he wrote.

"I know what it’s like to stand unarmed in front of a police officer and be seen as a threat. It is a helpless bewildering place to find yourself. Any of us, being accosted after trying to help, would want to simply walk away. #jacobblake,"  tweeted out actor Khary Payton in support.

Blake is currently in the ICU in Kenosha, awaiting further surgeries. #BlackLiveMatter protests continue all over the country after the incident, rallying for justice for Jacob Blake.
