It was announced on Friday that Connecticut prosecutors have put to rest the case of 15-year-old Martha Moxley of Greenwich—a girl who was believed to be beaten to death by neighbor Michael Skakel. The case has been closed 45 years after the event.

Chief State's Attorney Richard Colangelo Jr. announce that the state will not involve Skakel in a re-trial. The case was filed as "nolle" by the judge, which is a motion to dismiss a case before trial, confirmed NPR.

After 17 of the original 51 case witnesses have died, it became difficult to pursue the case accurately. The case has harbored attention for decades because of the Skakel's family tied to the Kennedy's.
