No matter how much money you have or how famous you are, there’s no escaping freak accidents and what the universe may throw at you. Today, basketball legend Kobe Bryant has died at the age of 41. It was reported that Bryant was among four others killed on site of a horrific helicopter accident.
The Lakers star was traveling in his private helicopter just as he is wont to do any other day of his life. Due to some technical failures and internal fires, the helicopter crashed down in Calabasas California.
It has yet to be confirmed who his fellow flyers were that also died in the crash. It's presumed that, other than the pilot, he was traveling with three friends. It has at least been confirmed that his family were not on board and are, in fact, safe and unharmed.
The retired superstar athlete had also just been passed the night before for the all-time scoring record by other basketball legend Lebron James, who now sits at third for the scoring record with Bryant at fourth.
This celebrity death comes on the tails of a celebrity death from earlier this week with the passing of Monty Python legend Terry Jones, and you know what they say, everything comes in threes. So, here’s hoping we don’t hear more unfortunate news in the coming week.
*UPDATE: At the time of writing this original post, it was being reported that Bryant’s family was safe and uninvolved. I regret to say tragically his 13-year-old daughter Gianna died in the crash along with Bryant.
