A woman claims she didn’t know she was pregnant until she gave birth on the toilet.

Melissa Surgecoff, from Massachusetts in the US, started to experience intense stomach cramps and pain while at home on 8 March. Witnessing her pain, Surgecoff’s partner Donnie Campbell called 911 thinking she might be passing a kidney stone. But before the ambulance arrived, Surgecoff rushed to the toilet, as she could only find relief on the seat.

"The only relief I would get was sitting on the toilet. So I was in the bathroom, and I... couldn't sit still. I was screaming, I was trying not to be loud. Like, I didn't know what this was. Surgecoff says she then felt 'something rush out of her’. "I look in the toilet and I still didn't know what it was," she said while speaking to Today. "And I thought I basically lost an organ because I didn't know!"

Campbell, meanwhile told NBC Boston that the couple wasn’t expecting a baby, hence the birth was a massive surprise for them. Luckily for them, although the baby did not get any prenatal care. It’s doing really well and it has already been discharged from the hospital along with Surgecoff.

Surgecoff says she had absolutely no clue that she was expecting and that her entire nine-month pregnancy had gone unnoticed. She says she has an irregular cycle, and although she did gain weight, she associated it with a change in medication.

We thought it was medication because I had just changed to a new multiple sclerosis medication and that was one of the symptoms, gaining weight," Surgecoff said talking to NBC Boston.
