Microwave Gunk be Gone!

Anyone who has ever worked in an office or had a busy home knows how easy it is to forget the microwave. At least for me, it isn't until there's baked-on food all over the inside of the microwave that I remember to clean it! But it's such an awkward angle to be using a lot of scrubbing power, and wouldn't we all rather use that scrubbing time doing pretty much anything else? Well here it is: the last microwave cleaning hack you'll (hopefully) ever need!

  1. Combine the juice of 1 lemon and 1 cup of water in a microwave-safe bowl. I recommend heavy duty-glass for this, but plastic will work, as well. Be sure that the bowl is large enough for the mixture to double without boiling over.
  2. Using a spray bottle, spritz the whole inside of the microwave with water. Make sure you get the bottom, too!
  3. Microwave on high for about 7 minutes. The mixture in the bowl should be boiling for about 5 minutes of this, so adjust time as needed according to your specific microwave.
  4. Do not open the door once time is completed. Wait approximately 3 more minutes. The steam is working to loosen the gunk!
  5. Use a sponge to easily wipe out the rest of the mess.

Easy, right? You may have to repeat the process for truly heinous kitchen disasters, but I've found that this is nearly foolproof for cleaning most standard messes, and I barely have to do anything!
