Thousands of emergency workers are digging through the rubble searching for survivors in a neighborhood of Atami, a central seaside hot spring resort city, that was demolished by a massive landslide.

Approximately 130 homes and buildings were destroyed Saturday when the disaster struck. Atami is located about 90 kilometers southwest of Tokyo.

Three people have been confirmed dead and as many as 80 others may be missing.

Saturday’s landslide followed several days of torrential rains, with more rainfall than Atami receives the entire month of July in most years.
