Phasmophobia is an indie horror game that has gained immense popularity on Steam in the last few months. The game is a co-op survival game (up to 4 people) that puts players in the role of paranormal investigators. Players enter different maps and use ghost-hunting tools (salt, spirit boxes, UV lights, etc.) to determine what kind of ghost is haunting the premises. Players get bonus points for extra objectives (like getting a photograph of the ghost) but it can also put them in danger of being killed by the ghosts and they can lose their items.
The first new map has been added in awhile... and it's a lovely, horrifying prison level. The map is medium size and has been in beta since the end of November to work out the kinks, now it's live and available to all players. Since it's new, it will be optional through the contract selection to allow players to get comfortable with the new map. The prison is two levels but not quite as big as the asylum, which is still the largest map in the game.
Phasmophobia was released in early access in September 2020 and is the first game by Kinetic Games, a UK studio. The game was supposed to be released out of early access quickly but given the amount of interest and the popularity many big-named twitch streamers brought to the title, the developers decided to keep it in early access a bit longer to ensure that it will be the best it can be when it's fully released. Kinetic Games has stated that they are currently working on other maps to expand the gameplay, including a small map in an apartment building and a larger map that will take place in a mansion.
