Jim Ryan, CEO of the gaming console PlayStation, stated recently that he doesn't think Virtual Reality will be a meaningful or essential part of the gaming experience any time in the close future, at least for a few years. While VR has been the new craze in entertainment and interactive advancements, Ryan believes that it really is some time before it becomes a standard in entertainment interaction.
“PlayStation believes in VR. Sony believes in VR, and we definitely believe at some point in the future, VR will represent a meaningful component of interactive entertainment. Will it be this year? No. Will it be next year? No. But will it come at some stage? We believe that," he said to The Washington Post.
The PlayStation 5 has been all the hype since it was announced to be released on November 12 in certain regions including the United States, and November 19 for the rest of the world. While Ryan said that the PlayStation is "more than a few minutes from the future of VR," the now PS5 will in fact be supporting VR headsets, sold by the company, through an adapter on the console.
