Recap of The Game Awards 2020

The 2020 Game Awards was virtually hosted by George Keighley this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Below you can find recaps of the winners along with the new announcements and reveals that took place during the event.


Announcements:


Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter - Sephiroth from Final Fantasy will join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a fighter in the Fighters Pass Vol. 2. There will be a total of 6 new fighters that are expected to be released on Dec. 31, 2021.

Perfect Dark - A new game titled Perfect Dark is being released by the developer The Initiative. The game is still in the early development stages but the trailer is full of sleek designs that look to be promising for its release.

Mass Effect - Little details were given but one thing is for certain, the Mass Effect series is going to have another game. They had a teaser trailer that ended solely with the words "Mass Effect will continue".

Ark 2 - The genre-defining survival game Ark: Survival Evolved is getting a sequel that will star Vin Diesel. Not much is known about the follow-up game aside from the fact that it will be set in prehistoric times like its predecessor. On top of that, ark is getting a star-studded animated TV series as well.

Dragon Age - There hasn't been a Dragon Age game since Dragon Age: Inquisition  was released in 2014. The next in the series was teased at The Game Awards 2018 and in 2020 they presented a new teaser trailer although the date of release is still unknown.

Among Us - A new map for Among Us  was revealed. The game skyrocketed in popularity during the 2020 pandemic and its developer, InnerSloth, showcased the new map that will be released. It's going to be called The Airship and will feature new tasks as well as some returning tasks from previous maps.

Fall Guys - Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is getting a third season on Dec. 15, 2020. It;s going to be a winter wonderland themed seasonal update that includes 7 new levels and 30 new costumes.

Fortnite - Master Chief from the Halo series is now a playable character in the popular battle royale game Fortnite. There is also a new Halo map to play on, titled Blood Gulch.

Endless Dungeon - Sega and Amplitude Studios teamed up to create a new game called  Endless Dungeon that is set to be released on consoles and PC platforms. According to the developers it both is and isn't a sequel to Dungeon of the Endless. What that means isn't clear just yet, but if you enjoy rogue-like action games, Endless Dungeon looks like it will be incredibly fun!

Evil West - If you ever wanted to play a game like Red Dead Redemption but in a fantasy setting, Evil West is the game for you. The trailer premiered and it's set up as a wild west style game, but you get to fight vampires and other monsters in a dark fantasy world. It's set to be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2021 by developers Flying Wild Hog and Focus Home Interactive.

Open Roads - Fullbright, the developer of the critically acclaimed Gone Home is creating a new game called Open Roads. The story will follow a mother and daughter on their journey across "a series of long-abandoned family properties". The game will star Keri Russel of The Americans and Kaitlyn Dever of Booksmart.
