A salon has been accused of animal abused after it added live fish to fake nails.

Nail Sunny is famous for its quirky designs, but this time around, it went too far with its fake nails. The brand recently uploaded a video to Instagram showing how it inserted a living fish into the client’s false nails, and the video has since evoked the contempt of online animal rights activists.

One person said: "I really enjoy watching these videos but for real this was just too much."

Another added: "Even for fun, it's not cool."

A third wrote: "This is absolutely ridiculous."

Thankfully, the salon later revealed that the nail wasn’t sealed, and the animal was soon dropped back into a much larger aquarium. Had the nail been closed, the fish would be unable to get food, and it would have either starved to death or suffocated due to lack of oxygen.

PETA, however, wasn’t flattered even after the revelation. Its director Elisa Allen not only called out Nail Sunny for handling fish irresponsibly, but it also addressed the media accusing the salon of animal abuse.

"Using animals as if they were nothing more than beauty accessories is sad and stupid. There's no excuse for ripping sensitive fish out of their natural habitats and confining them to tiny, artificial enclosures - let alone ones attached to people's nails.” Allen wrote. "Most people would be horrified to see these little animals floating helplessly in stagnant water. This establishment must be reported to local authorities for cruelty to animals and its access to social media must be suspended while a full investigation takes place."
