Today marks the premier of Season 2 of the Hulu show Pen15 and it deals with extremely important issues in our society. The show is centered around Maya and Anna, two middle-schoolers who are trying to navigate the awkward period between being a kid and hitting puberty. The Hulu show celebrates female friendship as more than just a supporter for bigger things such as career goals and marriage, but rather a strong-standing achievement on its own.

The season follows the tween duo as they continue on through middle school, exploring more complex relationships with themselves and each other in suburbia. The creators of the show Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle, playing their young selves on the show, are expanding the horizons this season, making it a clear message that women aren't the problem, as foreshadowed in the beginning of the first half of the season.

The beauty of the show is that its meant for older folks, which makes watching the show a more immersive experience as it requires you to reach in and recall how you felt yourself when you were 13. "The first pain comes because no one is there to tell these girls that they’re fine, perfect even, and nothing a boy says should impact the way they feel about their bodies,' wrote Alexis Nedd for Mashable

"The first pain comes because no one is there to tell these girls that they’re fine, perfect even, and nothing a boy says should impact the way they feel about their bodies," said Erskine to Vogue. The show tackles complexities of heartbreak, friendships, and family issues that shed a light on how they shape us. Watching the show, it would seem like you're (cringily) looking back on your younger self, and you might just find some answers within it.
