The Kids Aren't Alright. They're Protesting.

Over 15,000 UK students walked out of classes today and rallied around government buildings to call on elected officials to declare a climate emergency and take immediate actions to address the growing threat of climate disaster.

The movement began when 15-year-old Swede Greta Thunberg skipped class to sit outside government buildings last September, and accused her country of not following the Paris Climate Agreement.

The protesters had 4 cornerstones of their protest;

*The government should declare a "climate emergency"

*It should also inform the public about the seriousness of the situation

*The national curriculum should be reformed to include "the ecological crisis"

*The age of voting should be lowered to 16 so younger people can be involved in decision-making around environmental issues.

The students have been dismissed by some as "wasting school time" and waxing pedantic about the value of an education (one that probably won't matter if they end up spending their 40's in the future from Water World).

However, most people, including public officials, have applauded the teenagers for their courage and their commitment to environmental improvement.
