The Magicians Cancelled After 5 Seasons

It’s a sad day when you realize you have to say goodbye to a beloved TV show; it almost feels like saying goodbye to a friend or saying goodbye to a whole group of them. Good storytelling is providing an audience with characters and plotlines that people can emotionally connect to, and that’s how you know a show will be hard to let go of.

I found out today that I’m going to need to let go of The Magicians, as it will permanently come to an end with this season’s finale on April 1st because SyFy chose not to pick it up again for a sixth season. The show’s producers have expressed that they had a feeling this could be the shows last leg, leading them to choose to end the show in a concrete way after attempting (and failing) to find another platform that would be right for the show to call home.

I’m grateful the show will give us closure in the end, but it seems like there is so much more story to tell. The fans have been divided over the choice the show makers made to kill off the show’s lead character last season, with some fans feeling it was a bold choice and the show was still good and some feeling angry at the decision to kill off not only a bisexual character but one with depression.

Regardless of which side of the debate people fall on (regardless if they’ve even watched season four at all), this was an incredibly beloved show that will be missed, and there will be a little less magic in the world on Monday night.
