There's a Squidward Tentacles Spin-off Show in the Works at Netflix

Netflix is feeling the pressure already to keep on their toes now that Disney+ has been released. We talked about this some already with the release of the teaser trailer for 'Selena: The Series,' but now they're dropping some more news on us to keep us interested, speculating, and tuning in.

In a bold move, it's been announced that Netflix is teaming up with Nickelodeon, one of the other two childhood nostalgia powerhouses outside of Disney, to produce new Nick content to keep people on the platform for the same reason people are tuning in to Disney+: the nostalgia factor. According to the NY Times article below, the deal is worth more than $200 million for Nickelodeon to give Netflix access to their arsenal of shows and characters.

While the entire expanse of the Nickelodeon backlog is at Netflix's fingertips, there is one property in particular they are kicking things off with. And to be honest, it's probably the smartest move. Of course the IP in question is Spongebob Squarepants. Along with the announcement of the partnership, Netflix informed us that we will be getting a Squidward Tentacles centered show.

I can only imagine this show will end up a little less kid friendly, as Squidward is known for his negativity, being easily irritated, and sometimes even being kind of aggressive. And with the fact that so many older folks are tuning in for that nostalgia, maybe that would be the best course of action. But little is known right now, and it's safe to say Netflix let the early news leak purposefully in an attempt to get Disney shaking in their boots.
