We had tuned into the July Nintendo Treehouse to catch some exclusive footage of Nintendo Switch’s forthcoming Paper Mario: The Origami King when we received the shock of our lives. Nintendo is resurrecting a treasured franchise, and that too in a classic RPG format. WayForward Studios is developing Bakugan: Champions of Vestoria, which will make its way to the hybrid handheld console on November 3, 2020.

Bakugan: Champions od Vestoria is an original story based on the popular Japanese-Canadian ‘Bakugan’ TV series and toy franchise; it is a full-fledged action RPG with an original storyline constituting of about a 100 quests and feature an array of 80 Bakugan. The central premise will involve players participating in Bakugan tournaments meanwhile investigating a series of frequent, peculiar that seem to shake up the town where the story is set.

Take a look at the official trailer for the game below.

The official trailer for the game has also shed some light on Bakugan’s gameplay mechanics: Players will run around the field while their Bakugan compete in battles, they will gather energy cores for their toy-monsters that will help charge the characters up and unleash their maximum abilities.

While the reemergence of Bakugan would have been a delightful prospect for Nintendo, Twitter clearly isn’t pleased. Fans are furious that the new game is based on the notorious Bakugan reboot series rather than the original 2007 ‘Bakugan Battle Brawlers’ anime. They have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment on the upcoming release.

WayForward fandom too is disillusioned by the reveal. Fans were hoping that the game producer will revive a widely known franchise for its new Nintendo Switch outing, rather it ended up rebooting a cult-favourite for its prestigious Nintendo collaboration.
