According to a study that was published by Patterns, there has been a surge in gun sales lately. It states that this may be due to the fear of gun regulation and stricter laws after mass shootings.

Apparently it has already been established that gun purchases increase after mass shootings in general. However, "the motivation behind this connection has been understudied," says the study's first author Maurizio Porfiri.

The study poses the questions of whether it goes up because people are looking to protect themselves or because it spurs the conversation of stricter laws on guns? It is perceived that it is because people fear stricter regulation of guns after shootings.

The study saw an increase in purchases in both states that have. strict gun laws and ones that have more permissive laws, which was unexpected.
