According to an expert on UAE law claims, the women who posed nude on a balcony in Dubai did so as part of a publicity stunt for an adult website.

The group of women sparked uproar in the UAE after they posed naked on the balcony, despite the country's strict laws against 'lewd' conduct.

The women may have been performing a stunt for an international porn site; it has now been revealed.

The stunt was for an Israeli porn site, according to Radha Stirling, Director, and Founder of Detained in Dubai, who told Metro. If this is valid, the women could face hefty fines or even time in jail.

"Initially, we were told it was the Israeli branch of a US adult website," Stirling told the newspaper, "and now we hear it's an Israeli porn channel."

Detained in Dubai is a London-based non-profit that bills itself as the "international authority on UAE law."

"Our highest priority is helping clients secure the best possible outcome to complicated UAE legal problems, regardless of how the odds are stacked against them," according to the company's website.

In response to the incident, Dubai Police issued a statement citing Article 361 of the UAE's Federal Penal Code.

"Whoever openly appeals, sings, or engages in a lewd speech in any manner whatsoever, or seduces anyone publicly into debauchery in any manner whatsoever, shall be punished by imprisonment for no more than six months and a fine not exceeding Dhs5,000 (£980), or by either of these two penalties."

Stirling, however, believes those responsible might spend even more time in prison, telling Metro: "If it turns out to be an Israeli porn company and the Israeli embassy is involved, they could do a deal of some kind."

"However, if they went straight down the line, they could face fines of hundreds of thousands of dirham and a few years in jail."

The women were captured on video outside a penthouse apartment on the Dubai Marina, which was shared on Twitter.

The women have been apprehended and are thought to be from a variety of countries.

"A criminal complaint has been brought against the arrested, and they have been referred to the Public Prosecutor for further legal action," the police statement continued.

"Dubai Police issues a strong warning against such unacceptable behaviours that do not represent Emirati society's values and ethics."
