While at-home parties were going on floors since March this year for a safer way to celebrate things, one such gender-reveal party did not prove to be a safe haven for California residents.

Jenna Karvunidis was the first person who shared the idea of a gender reveal celebration ever since she posted a blog about how she revealed her baby’s gender through pink icing inside a cake. Ever since that post, millions of people around the world have been hosting a gender reveal party as well as extravaganzas which included pink or blue decorations and props as a hint for the baby’s gender.

Yet some people, like a couple in California, hosted a party that involved a pyrotechnic device that caused a huge explosion due to misuse. The explosion resulted in another wildfire that spread 10,000 acres.

Karvunidis posted ‘It was 116 degrees in Pasadena yesterday and this tool thought it would be smart to light a fire about his kid's dick. Toxic masculinity is men thinking they need to explode something because simply enjoying a baby party is for sissies.’

She also added that her idea of the gender reveal was comparatively harmless than what people are thinking of now. ‘ Excuse me for having a cake for my family in 2008. Just because I'm the gEnDeR rEvEaL iNVeNtoR doesn't mean I think people should burn down their communities.’

Jenna also expanded her views on gender non-conformity and how she has changed views about the gender reveal tradition. ‘Who cares what gender the baby is?’ ‘I did at the time because we didn't live in 2019 and didn't know what we know now — that assigning focus on gender at birth leaves out so much of their potential and talents that have nothing to do with what's between their legs.’
